Have you ever heard a song so many times you knew every word—then one day you really listened, and were stunned to realize that while you were bobbing your head to its catchy melody, you’d missed its powerful message? I had that experience recently listening to Josh Wilson’s song “Revolutionary.” I was walking and listening to my favorite playlist, as I do most days. I’m not sure if something was weighing on me that day, but the following lyrics stirred something deep as they flowed through my earbuds:
Why does kindness seem revolutionary?
When did we let hate get so ordinary?
Let's turn it around, flip the script
Judge slow, love quick
God help us get revolutionary
Why are we so quick to judge others? Why does kindness seem obscure?  What is love? I didn't have to travel far in my Bible to discover the answers to those questions. The Bible is about God's love for us and is full of wisdom about how to treat others.
According to 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (WEB), “Love is patient and is kind. Love doesn’t envy. Love doesn’t brag, is not proud, doesn’t behave itself inappropriately, doesn’t seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil; doesn’t rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things.”
That definition does sounds like a lot. Jesus made it simple. When He was asked which is the greatest commandment, he responded, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment.  A second likewise is this, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments. (Matthew 22: 37-40, WEB)”
Love is the key. If you love God and others, living out 1 Corinthians 13 becomes second nature. Let's get revolutionary about love?
Here are some examples from the Bible of how we can do just that:
 • Support others (Galatians 5:13, 6:2)
• Be patient (2 Peter 1:5-7)
• Encourage and build up others (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
• Show kindness and forgiveness (Ephesians 4:32)
• Rejoice always (1 Thessalonians 5:16 )
So the next time you’re tempted to respond with frustration or pass by a chance to show kindness, remember love may not be loud—but it can still start a revolution.
